The Portuguese version of the Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS; Kiresuk & Sherman, 1968) is the Escala de Objetivos Atingidos and can be used in research or clinical practice as a method for evaluating the results obtained in family therapy, in an intervention program or in other support
services oriented to the family group. This version is adapted to the context of family intervention, although the GAS can be used in several
populations and contexts. At the beginning of the intervention, this method allows to identify the goals to be achieved, later analyzing the extent to which they were achieved as a result of the intervention. Based on a random sample of 40 cases of Systemic Family Therapy studies of reliability (interrater agreement) and validity (content and social) were performed. The advantages and limitations of using this method of evaluation
are explored and some recommendations are made to promote an appropriate implementation.
