Pain is one of the main causes of human suffering, affecting people’s quality of life and intervening in their well‑being as physical as pychosocial. Nevertheless pain is not always possible to eliminate, there are a range of nonpharmacological techniques that seems to be efficient in reducing the suffering with non relieved pain; Once nurses are one the health‑care professionals who have more frequent contact with patients, they play a major role in the implementation of actions for the pain control, such as nonpharmacological techniques.
The main question that guided this study was to discover nurses’ knowledge about nonpharmacological techniques and the frequency of their application in pain control.
The study was a descriptive correlational, data was collected using a questionnaire with personal and professional questions and by a set of affirmations in order to identify the nurses’ knowledge about nonpharmacological techniques. The study result seems to point out that training on “Pain and the nonpharmacological techniques in its control” promotes better knowledge and consequently an increase in the application of these techniques. Such fact demonstrates that the investment in this area training is vital for pain relief and promotion of life quality of those who suffer from it.
